Prof. Ibrahim Abdulhalim

Title: Plasmonic biosensors: status and future
Prof. Ibrahim Abdulhalim graduated from the Physics Department at the Technion, where he received his D.Sc. in 1988. He has been a Professor in the Department of Electro-Optics and Photonics Engineering at Ben-Gurion University since October 2005 and served as Head of the Department from 2007 to 2015. Before this position, he held research and professional roles in both academia and industry, including at the Optical Computing Systems Center at the University of Colorado Boulder, the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton, the Thin Films Centre at the University of the West of Scotland, as well as companies such as KLA-Tencor, Nova Measuring Instruments, and GWS Photonics. His current research focuses on liquid crystal (LC) devices for photonic applications, energy-saving optoelectronic devices, nanophotonics and plasmonics for biosensing, and biomedical optical imaging techniques. Prof. Abdulhalim has published over 300 scientific articles, co-authored two books and 12 book chapters, and holds more than 25 granted patents. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IoP) and SPIE, and a Senior Member of OPTICA. He has served as Associate Editor for the SPIE Journal of Nanophotonics and the Journal of Imaging, and currently serves as Topical Editor for Applied Optics and Associate Editor for the journals Biosensors and Sensors. He has also founded two startup companies: Photonicsys, specializing in miniature photonic sensing instruments, and Photoliqsys, focusing on liquid crystal devices and their integration into systems.
Prof. FangXiang WU

Title: Advancing Bioinformatics with Artificial Intelligence
Dr. FangXiang Wu is currently a full professor in the Departments of Computer Science, the Division of Biomedical Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. He is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) (for his exceptional contributions to artificial intelligence, computational biology, medical image analysis and complex bionetwork analytics), a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) (for contributions to computational intelligence techniques for biomedical data analytics), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA). He is a recipient of the University of Saskatchewan Distinguished Researcher Award (the institution’s highest research honor).

Dr Wu’s research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine/Deep Learning, Computational Biology, Health Informatics, Medical Image Analytics, and Complex Network Analytics. He has published over 500 journal/conference papers. His total Google scholar citations are over 20,000 and h-index is 77. Dr Wu is serving as the editorial board member of several international journals (including IEEE TCBB, Neurocomputing, etc.) and as the guest editor of numerous international journals, and as the program committee chair or member of many international conferences.

Prof. Jian-Jiang Zhong
Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China
Title: Advances in Biomanufacturing Technology
Dr. JJ Zhong is a distinguished professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. His research interests include biotechnology, biochemical engineering, metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. He has published over 270 papers in peer-reviewed international journals. He was awarded the Cheung Kong Scholar Professorship from the Ministry of Education (MOE), National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars by National Natural Science Foundation of China, the inaugural award of "Young Asian Biotechnologist Prize" by the Society for Biotechnology (Japan), the 1st-class Prize for Advancement of Science & Technology by MOE for twice (in 2004 & 2014), and the "Research Exchange Award" from the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering. He is on the editorial board of 10 SCI-cited international journals and was a plenary/invited speaker in about 90 international conferences.
Prof. Ji-Dong Gu

Title: Advances in Biotechnology for Protection of World Cultural Heritage
Ji-Dong Gu is currently a full professor of the Environmental Science and Engineering Department, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and also Israel Institute of Technology concurrently. He obtained his M.Sc. from University of Alberta (Canada), and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech (USA). After a brief post-doc at University of Massachusetts – Lowell, he joined Ralph Mitchell’s Laboratory at Harvard University for 6 years before taking a faculty position at The University of Hong Kong. After working for more than 21 years, he resigned from the University of Hong Kong and then started his new full-time position with Guangdong Technion - Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology and Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in 2020.

His recent research interest includes: 1) carbon and nitrogen cycling, including anaerobic ammonium oxidation and nitrite-dependent anaerobic methane oxidation; 2) oil field microbiology for enhanced oil recovery and pollution remediation; and 3) microbiology of cultural heritage.

His H-index is 98, i10-index 521, and total citations of 35,705 (GoogleScholar). He has been the world top 1% scientists by WoS since 2013. He has published in the areas of applied and environmental microbiology and toxicology with more than 500 refereed scientific journal papers, 42 book chapters. He co-edited a book with Ralph Mitchell on ‘Environmental Microbiology’ (2nd ed, John Wiley-Blackwell. 2010).

He is the editor-in-chief for International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation (2015– ) and Sustainable Biotechnology (2026– )(a new journal to be launched); and editor for Global Heritage, npj Heritage Science, and Studies in Conservation.
Prof. Frederick H. Silver

Title: The Use of Photonics and Vibronics to Study Mechanobiology and Pathobiology of Disease
Dr. Frederick H. Silver is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He did his Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering at M.I.T. with Dr. Ioannis Yannas, the inventor of the Integra artificial skin, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Developmental Medicine at Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA with Dr. Robert L. Trelstad, a connective tissue pathologist. Dr. Silver invented in his lab at Rutgers a new technique termed vibrational optical coherence tomography (VOCT). US and European patents have been granted on VOCT to Rutgers on vibrational evaluation of materials and tissues. The issued patent has been licensed to OptoVibronex, LLC. a startup company co-founded by Dr. Silver and Lisa Silver. This technology can be used to provide a non-invasive “virtual biopsy” of tissues including skin cancers and ocular tissues. This technology can be used with telemedicine to provide images and quantitative mechanovibrational data that along with AI can be used to remotely provide information used in making personalized medical diagnoses. His interests include applying new engineering techniques that can be used to assess the structure and properties of extracellular matrix in health and disease and the role of mechanobiology in tissue mechanical homeostasis. A breakthrough device designation has been issued by the US FDA to OptoVibronex to facilitate the approval process and to assist the Dermatologist to identify the margins and depth of skin lesions noninvasively. Dr. Silver has published over 250 peer reviewed scientific papers, 4 textbooks on biomaterials and biomedical engineering, and has over 20 patents issued and pending. He has taught biomedical engineering students at Boston University, University of Minnesota, and Rutgers for over 40 years. He is an academic editor for the MDPI Journal Biomolecules.
Prof. Jiri Bartek

Title: Cell cycle and genome integrity controls: Mechanisms and relevance for cancer development and treatment
Jiri Bartek is a globally recognized authority in the field of DNA damage response and genome integrity. He is a professor of cancer biology at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, and holds parallel group leader appointments since 2015, at the Danish Cancer Society in Copenhagen and the Karolinska Institute. His work focuses on mechanistic aspects of cell cycle regulation, checkpoint pathways, genome (in)stability and cancer development, complemented by translational work towards new treatments of cancer. With close to 600 peer-reviewed publications including numerous papers in Nature, Cell and Science, well over 100.000 citations, and his current h-Index around 150, he is the most cited cancer researcher in Scandinavia and among the most cited European scientists in cell biology and cancer research. J. Bartek is a long-term member of EMBO, frequent invited speaker at prestigious conferences, and his achievements have been acknowledged by a range of prestigious awards in multiple countries. He obtained his MD and PhD degrees in the Czech Republic, before his postdoctoral research at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund Laboratories in London (now the CRUK/Crick Institute) and the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, followed by his appointments in the Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden. He has a broad network of collaborators and supervised a large number of young scientists, many of whom are now successful group leaders and professors in related fields of biomedicine in diverse countries on several continents.
Prof. Buyong Ma

Title: Emerging of Dynamic Conformation Based Drug Design
Buyong Ma is a professor in the school of pharmacy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Dr. Ma received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Georgia at Athens in 1995. He joined NCI/NIH in 1998 and moved to current position in 2020. He has made outstanding contributions to computer-aided antibody drug design, biomacromolecular structure and interactions, and protein-protein interactions and functions. He proposed the conformational selection theory of biomolecular recognition, which has become a model alongside the classic 'Lock-Key' and 'Induced Fit' models. He was the first in the world to reveal the structure of the Aβ amyloid associated with Alzheimer's disease. His research findings have been extensively cited in areas such as the characterization of protein structure dynamics, enzyme catalysis, protein-protein interactions and drug design, and neurodegenerative diseases, thereby advancing progress in these fields.
